ERHS Calendar - Week of 2/8/10

Next week is the mid-winter recess so our next calendar will be for the week of 2/22/10.

Dear ERHS Students and Community,

Over the Regents Week Eleanor Roosevelt High School had nine new ENO Interactive Whiteboards installed in classrooms to complete the building!  These new boards coupled with the new slates (that can be used to write on the board from anywhere in the classroom) will make learning in our classrooms a truly 21st Century reality.  Our teachers can now use their laptops in all classrooms in the building to project on these boards.  These boards can also be used in a "low tech" manner as a regular whiteboard as well.

Students and faculty: it is up to you to use this incredible technology in new ways to support learning.  The faculty will continue to get professional training on how to use these boards in the coming weeks.

As the second semester gets going, remember to meet with your advisor and reset your goals for the rest of the year.  Visit the library to look into some possible books to read in the spring semester.  We are going to have a special library event this week to celebrate Valentine's Day.  Our annual "Love Event" will take place during advisory class time on Tuesday (9th Grade), Wednesday (11th Grade) and Thursday (10th Grade).  Ms. Ettenheim has set up a nice selection of books for students to explore during this event.  Students may get permission from their advisor or entire advisories are invited to visit the library on the selected day.

In the world of ERHS sports...the Boys Basketball team's final regular season game will be this Monday afternoon at Wagner.  We will be raising funds by contributing to the Haiti Relief Fund through a Hoops for Haiti initiative.  We are taking pledges (families are encouraged to contribute through their children) through advisories on Monday.  Our school has raised around $2000 so far for Haiti.  Thank you all for your generosity.  Playoffs, here we come!  Congratulations to the Girls Team who matched last year’s victory total with a chance to exceed that number later this week.

In the world of ERHS food service...we have shattered the record high for lunches served this past week with a new high of 238 meals served this past Wednesday.  The food is tasty and nutritious and of course, FREE!  It is great to see students attending at these numbers and we are continuing to collect funds for Haiti through donations made by those who want to contribute their lunch money for this cause after eating a free meal at school.

The students in the Kiboko elective class have completed their masks and have shared some biographical information on their masks that can be viewed by clicking the link below. Not only are we communicating via Skype calling to our partner school in Kisumu, Kenya but the class is going to Skype call our other contributing school in Gymnasium #209 in St. Petersburg, Russia this week.  Thank you Mr. Stoltz, Jill Raufman and Mark Scheflen for revitalizing this program and the ERHS PTA for their support.

We wish our Science Olympiad teams the best as the complete in this year's competition (weather permitting) tomorrow, Saturday 2/6.

Thank you all for a smooth opening of the second semester and remember to bring your "A" game throughout the year, whether it is the classroom, in athletics, in extracurriculars, everywhere!  Have a wonderful Mid-Winter Recess next week and we will see you on Monday, February 22nd.

Your principal,

Mr. Saliani

"Combined with shared folders in Google Docs, the upload feature is a great way to collaborate on files with coworkers and external parties. Instead of using cumbersome email attachments, you can upload files to a folder and share it with coworkers, who can then access and edit the files from a single place."

Site of the Week

  • Back to the Google Blog this week! Did you know that you can Share Folders?
    http://googleenterprise.blogspot.com/2009/10/easily-share-collections-of-files-with.html
    "
Teams of coworkers often work on projects involving dozens – sometimes hundreds – of files, like documents, spreadsheets and presentations. As new materials are created and as teams grow and evolve, making sure the right people have access to the latest set of files has been a big challenge."
